fermentation is hot!

WHAT YOU'LL LEAVE WITH:

Good-for-your-gut bacteria and tons of flavor have helped fermented foods rise to the top of the health & wellness world, and fast. These funkily flavored foods are good for you and exciting to eat, but they’re even more fun to make! Join in for this workshop that will introduce you to the process of lacto-fermentation as well as a ton of amazing foods that are made through different fermentation processes. We’ll not only give you the basics on why and how fermented foods are awesome, we’ll also walk you through making your own batch of fermented hot sauce!

The workshop will be held on Black Rock Ranch in Stinson Beach. A tour of the ranch and a light lunch are included in the price of your ticket. Guests will finish the day with two of their own ferments started as well as a goody bag full of materials to keep the fermenting fun going back at home.

about your host: sustaining life

Sustaining Life is your destination for holistic sustainable living. Documenting her steps down a path towards living a more eco-friendly & ethical lifestyle, Faye Lessler seeks to encourage others to follow in her footsteps. Sustaining Life has been featured in Glamour Magazine and has collaborated with sustainability leaders including the Ethical Writers Coalition, Eileen Fisher, Patagonia, Thinx, and Klean Kanteen.

Faye lives with her partner, Jeremia, in NYC where they have discovered the fun and delicious art of fermentation. After one year on the east coast the duo knew they would have to come up with a way to preserve all of summer’s natural bounty so that its flavors could still grace their Brooklyn table throughout the colder months of the year. Three summers and many experiments later, their kitchen is lined with jars of fermented hot sauce, kimchi, pickling carrots, sauerkraut, kombucha, and sourdough.

about your host: black rock ranch

Black Rock Ranch is located at the foot of Mount Tamalpais overlooking the Pacific Ocean where Sandra & Rob Guidi grow olives, chickens, and rare breed sheep. On their tiny ranch, the pair practices regenerative agriculture and employ a number of sustainable methods for the good health of their animals and the mountain. Sandra and Rob believe deeply in the value of peace and connection with their land and community and after long careers in public service and raising a family they are honored to live and learn on the mountainside.

Little by little, slowly they go in building a restorative and wholesome space for humans, plants, and animals to thrive on the Stinson side of Mount Tam. They are most grateful for their space and are excited to offer their first workshop complete with a locally sourced light lunch, petal teas, and a glimpse into the daily routine of their tiny ranch.
